10/5/25
Harvest Moon Yoga with Ava

An Autumnal Equinox Extended Practice
Sunday October 5, 4-6pm
Radiate Studio, Sebastopol, CA

The fall full moon closest to the equinox is often called the Harvest Moon. When this full moon falls in October, it is sometimes called the Hunters Moon. Taking inspiration from these celestial signifiers, we’ll activate our strength, stamina, and courage through heat-building Surya Namaskaras and longer holds in strong standing postures, then bow softly to the changing season and darkening of the light through calming forward bends and restorative asanas.

Incorporating both Surya (Sun) and Chandra (Moon) Namaskaras (salutations), we move from stoking inner fire and exploring diverse variations of the warrior postures to the cooling moon sequence that invites us to move in a more circular pattern, spiraling gradually back down to earth where we’ll unwind our joints with supported, durational poses.

Experience Ava’s hands-on adjustments, which are gentle and deep, and tailored to each student. Fall freely and with ease into the autumn months, a time of both harvest and restoration.

Thursday 11/6/25, 6-8pm
Berkeley Yoga Center

Awaken and expand. Settle and soften. Open into the moment. Just as you are.

Our yoga practice is one of balancing oppositional forces - earth and sky, expansion and contraction, inhalation and exhalation. In this 2 hour in-person extended practice we will stimulate chi flow, increasing circulation and deepening respiration through a steadily paced vinyasa flow asana sequence. We’ll use that warmth and awareness to go deep into our major joints with some longer held supported postures for release and restoration, which help to calm our nervous systems and quiet our physical and energetic bodies. The result is a holistic practice that activates and energizes, helping to move stuck or stagnant chi (energy) while also cultivating sthira (steadiness), and providing energetic nourishment and calm. Ava is a seasoned practitioner and teacher of 20+ years - join her for a joyful journey on the mat, experience loving and sensitive hands-on adjustments, and celebrate the temple you live in - your body!

Donation Based Practice

I am pleased to offer classes in my virtual yoga shala by donation. Especially during these strange pandemic times, some folx have experienced significant changes to income. If you need to make special arrangements, or are a regular student who would prefer to receive a monthly invoice, please contact me directly at agentava@gmail.com.

Regular Zoom Classes

These classes happen weekly at regularly scheduled times (see above) on Zoom. Classes are a strong and steadily paced ashtanga vinyasa freestyle, which I adapt to best support students as they develop their own unique yoga practice. Wednesday evening sessions more closely follow the traditional ashtanga primary series, including the opening and closing chants.

First Saturdays: Community Practice

In these community practice sessions scheduled on the first Saturday of each month, I will simply call out the Sanskrit name of the postures and we'll move together. For newer students, it may be more challenging, but you are joyously welcome to join and follow along as best you can, just rest in child's pose whenever you need to. For more advanced students, I'll start with primary series and gradually layer in second series postures over time.

Monthly Extended Practice

Designed for dedicated students to 'go deeper'. The extended practice is a 2.5 hour session incorporating seated meditation, pranayama, and preparation poses prior to a rigorous flow in the classical ashtanga system. Sessions will include half or full primary series, as well as introductions to postures from the second series. We conclude with restorative postures leading into a deep Savasana. We practice softening into intensity - seeking ease and deep release as well as building strength, stamina, and focus. Time TBD when class is scheduled.

Physical Distance Practice

An occasional “physical distance” practice held throughout shelter-in-place held at Miller Knox Regional Park in Point Richmond, California. Practice begins at 10am; Savasana will conclude by 11:30am. There will be an opportunity to roll up your mat and depart at that time. For those who wish to stay, pranayama and meditation will be offered from 11:30am-12pm. Practice concludes by 12pm.
